5-ton Lifting Platform Enhances Cross-floor Logistics for Tech Company
Overview
A technology company, specializing in system R&D, faced a bottleneck in vertically transporting heavy materials between the first and third floors.
To address this, the company recently procured a large, customized hydraulic lifting platform from Gradin.
This case study analyzes how the Gradin equipment specifically improves the safety, efficiency, and automation of its internal logistics.
Basic Parameters

| Equipment Brand & Model | Gradin Customized Lifting Platform |
| Rated Load Capacity | 5000 kg |
| Travel Height | 7900 mm (1F to 3F) |
| Platform Size | 2400 mm (W) × 2550 mm (L) |
| Service Floors | 2 Stops (1F & 3F) |
| Core Structure | Double Cylinder & Four Columns, Heavy-duty H-beam Guide Rails |
| Key Features | Interlinked Aluminum Roll-up Doors, Full Enclosure Safety Guardrails, Overload Alarm, SKF Bearings |
| Primary Purpose | Efficient cross-floor transportation of heavy goods using forklifts. |
Challenge
- Efficiency Bottleneck: Traditional methods for moving heavy materials were cumbersome and time-consuming, hindering cross-floor efficiency.
- Safety Risks: Manual handling posed risks such as falls and collisions.
- Process Disconnection: The lack of a dedicated vertical transport channel compatible with forklifts resulted in a disjointed workflow.
Workflow
- Ground Floor Loading: A forklift drives directly onto the large platform of the Gradin lift with palletized goods.
- Secure Lifting: The operator activates the system. The doors close automatically with interlock. The Gradin platform ascends smoothly and quietly to the third floor, monitored by the overload protection.
- Third Floor Unloading: After precise leveling, the doors open. The forklift exits safely and delivers goods to the third-floor workstation, completing an efficient vertical transfer.
Solutions
- High-Throughput Solution: The Gradin platform’s 5000kg capacity and large deck enable rapid single-trip transfer of full pallets, upgrading intermittent handling to efficient batch vertical transport.
- Comprehensive Safety Solution: Integrated full enclosure guardrails, overload alarms, and interlocked safety doors on the Gradin equipment provide multiple safety layers, significantly reducing operational risks.
- Process Embedded Solution: Custom-built by Gradin for the indoor floor opening and featuring intelligent door interlock, the platform makes cross-floor transportation as smooth as ground-level travel, fully integrating the critical node in the material flow.
Safety Design
- Heavy-Duty & Stable Structure: Utilizes a dual hydraulic cylinder and four heavy-duty H-beam guide rail framework. This foundational design ensures absolute stability during operation, even at the full 5000kg load capacity, eliminating risks of tilting or deformation.
- Door-Machine Safety Interlock: Implements a hard-wired electrical interlock between the platform and the floor safety doors. The platform cannot start unless the doors are fully closed, and the doors remain locked unless the platform is precisely leveled, completely preventing the risk of personnel falling.
- Intelligent Overload Protection: Integrated high-precision sensors provide real-time load monitoring. If the weight exceeds the rated 5000kg capacity, the system immediately triggers audible/visual alarms and locks out operation, preventing equipment damage or accidents due to overloading.
- Fail-Safe Redundancy: The hydraulic circuit is equipped with double hydraulic locks that instantly engage to hold the platform in place even in case of a sudden hose failure. An emergency manual lowering valve is also provided for the safe and controlled descent of the platform to the nearest floor during a power outage.
- Full Guarding & High-Reliability Components: Features fully enclosed diamond-mesh guardrails on three sides for physical protection. Critical components, such as hydraulic seals (NOK brand) and bearings (SKF brand), utilize renowned industry-standard parts, ensuring long-term operational reliability and low failure rates from the source.
