Column Flipping & Pouring System: Precision 90° Flipping with Efficient Vibration Compaction
Overview
A landscaping and building materials manufacturer, specializing in high-quality precast concrete components, faced challenges in its production line for large hollow square columns.
Traditional methods for handling, flipping, and pouring concrete into these columns were unstable, inefficient, and could not ensure consistent compaction.
A dedicated, safe, and automated flipping solution was urgently needed.

Challenge
- Heavy Workpiece Handling: Safely flip and support large hollow columns exceeding 7 meters in length and weighing up to 6 tons.
- Precision Process Demands: After flipping, columns required concrete pouring with guaranteed material compaction and no voids.
- Adaptation to Complex Conditions: For specific column lengths (e.g., 3500mm), the client used auxiliary fixtures (like 2-meter-high supports). The machine design had to account for the resulting center-of-gravity shift to ensure absolute stability.
- Operational Ease & Safety: Required flexible inching control and one-touch automatic flipping modes. Enhanced protection for critical components (cylinder, power unit) was necessary for the demanding production environment.
Workflow
- Loading & Precise Positioning
The hollow column is placed horizontally onto the machine’s platform. Operators use the inching control mode to make fine adjustments, ensuring the column is perfectly aligned for a balanced and stable flip. - Automated & Secure 90-Degree Flip
With the one-touch automatic rotation mode, the machine smoothly and safely rotates the column precisely 90 degrees into a vertical position. The design inherently accounts for center-of-gravity stability, even when auxiliary supports are used. - Core Process: Pouring & Integrated Vibration
In the vertical position, concrete is poured into the column. Simultaneously, the integrated heavy-duty vibrator activates, ensuring the concrete is thoroughly distributed and compacted to eliminate air voids, which is critical for achieving structural integrity. - Return & Unloading
After compaction is complete, the machine automatically rotates the filled column back to the horizontal position. This makes it ready for safe and efficient removal by a forklift, completing the cycle.
Solutions
- Dual Platform Sizes
Equipped with two platform configurations—5500 × 1400 mm and 7500 × 1400 mm—to accommodate columns of different lengths and meet diverse project requirements. - Precision 90° Tipping
The hydraulic drive system ensures accurate 90° flipping with an angle tolerance of ≤ 0.5°, providing consistent positioning and enhanced quality control. - Integrated Vibration System
A 12 kN vibration unit is integrated into the base of the smaller platform, enabling automatic concrete compaction immediately after flipping and eliminating the need for separate vibration operations. - Explosion-Proof Design
The pump station features a dust-proof enclosure, and the hydraulic cylinders are protected by bellows guards. The system complies with Ex tD explosion-proof standards for dust environments, ensuring safe operation in concrete production facilities. - Smart Control System
Supports both jog mode for precise positioning and one-touch mode for rapid flipping, allowing flexible operation under different production conditions. - Centroid Stability Optimization
Specifically engineered to flip a 3500 mm column on a 2 m high stand, with optimized hydraulic pivot points to maintain stability and prevent vibration or misalignment during operation. - Modular Platform Design
A gear-and-rail quick-release mechanism enables platform size changes between 5500 mm and 7500 mm in less than one hour, significantly improving production flexibility and reducing downtime.
